MEANWHILE
Since 2011, the Illustration Department at Ringling College of Art and Design has produced student collaborative comic issues, led by a team of instructors. Traditionally, 18 students are selected from a large pool of portfolio submissions in the Spring and work throughout the following Fall semester as part of an INDEX (Industry Experience) course.
Chosen students are tasked with creating two pages of a unique story and an illustrated cover concept. Every two pages, the story cuts away—‘Meanwhile…’—to reveal another event unfolding at the same time, showcasing each student’s unique storytelling and artistic styles.
For 2026, Volume 16 is the largest in the series, featuring 20 selected students and additional illustrated pages.

BROKEN DREAMS
Welcome to Pyridae, a waking city of dreams where Dreamscapes shape the world of sleep. In this city, you are either a Dreamer, able to explore these dreamscapes and hold a unique ability to use in the waking reality- or a Vaster, one who parades in the darkness of sleep, whose dreams were "eaten" upon entering the closed-off city.
Amidst them, an unwilling oneirologist, Kohen Toh, studies these phenomena as a creeping nightmare begins to unravel reality itself. At the heart of this mystery lies Yvaine—the only Dreamer cursed with unending nightmares, an anomaly never before seen within Pyridae’s walls. Will the citizens of Pyridae be able to stop the breaking of reality before it's too late? Or will everyone end up succumbing to these Broken Dreams?
